Why choose us?

With over 25 years of experience in the hearing care industry, we are a trusted choice for those affected by earwax build-up.

Ear Better Wax Removal is a family-owned business led by a fully qualified, HCPC-registered HAD audiologist. Using the latest equipment and proven techniques, we deliver a thorough, comfortable, and pain-free experience for anyone suffering with ear wax-related issues.

What is the purpose of ear wax?

Excessive ear wax affects around 1 in 15 people in the UK and can sometimes be mistaken for hearing loss. Common symptoms include ear pain, itching, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), a blocked or “bunged up” sensation, dizziness, and reduced hearing.

Ear wax plays an important role in the body’s natural defence system. It helps protect the ears from infection and traps dust, debris, and other foreign particles. While small amounts are beneficial for maintaining healthy ear canals, excessive build-up can cause blockage and impact hearing.

To avoid potential damage, ear wax removal should not be attempted at home. DIY methods often push wax deeper into the ear canal, which can lead to pain, hearing loss, and make professional removal more difficult.

For safe and effective treatment, book your ear wax removal appointment in Gloucester, Cheltenham, or Stroud today.

Whats involved?

Your ear wax removal appointment typically takes around 20-25 minutes; however, we always allow additional time to ensure the procedure is carried out safely and without rush.

You are welcome to attend your appointment alone, but if you would feel more comfortable, a friend or family member is welcome to accompany you.

Before beginning any treatment, we will ask a few simple questions to gain a clear understanding of your ear health history. This will be followed by a thorough examination of your ear canals to determine the most appropriate and effective method of removal. All procedures will be clearly explained in advance, so you know what to expect throughout your treatment.

If no ear wax is found during the examination, we will advise you on the most appropriate next steps, which may include a referral to your GP or an ENT specialist. Where needed, we can also provide supporting documentation and images of any findings. Please note that the consultation fee still applies even if no wax is present.

Should you wish to see images of your ear canals before and/or after treatment, we are happy to provide this upon request.

Once you have given us informed consent to proceed, treatment will begin. If at any point you have questions or concerns, you can ask us to pause so we can address them fully.

After the procedure, a final inspection will be carried out to ensure all excessive wax has been safely removed and that the ear canal appears healthy. We will also provide any necessary aftercare advice.

We recommend softening the ear wax with olive oil–based ear drops (or similar) for 3–5 days prior to your appointment, unless you have a condition that makes this unsuitable.

There are no additional charges if a follow-up appointment is required.

Please note that we are unable to provide ear wax removal treatment for individuals under the age of 19.

We are HCPC registered and fully insured.

NHS ear wax referrals are welcome.

Microsuction

Microsuction is widely considered to be the safest and cleanest method of ear wax removal as water is not required.

Irrigation / Ear syringing

Irrigation uses luke warm water to gently flush the wax out of the ear. Particularly useful if the wax is sat on the eardrum.

Manual extraction

A variety of manual extraction tools can be utilized to gently dislodge hard dry wax from the ear canal, usually wax found near the canal entrance.
